Movie Review-Paddington (2014)

“Surely you will find something better.”
I recently watched the family movie “Paddington” because I was interested in the bear’s story. This movie came out in 2014, but in Japan in 2016. It became one of the biggest hits of the year, and it was nominated by the British Academy Film Awards for Best film in 2014.

In London, England, a little gentleman who wears a red hat comes from Peru to find his house. He brings a bottle of marmalade in his suitcase. Nobody talks with him because he is a bear. But he is named “Paddington” by Mrs. Brown who is very kind, and he starts urban life. He is pure and polite so he becomes popular in the city.

The major character is Paddington, with voice dubbed by Ben Whishaw. The head of the Brown family, Henry Brown is played by Hugh Bonneville and Mrs. Brown is played by Sally Hawkins. Millicent Clyde who has an eye to Paddington is played by Nicole Kidman. The director is Paul King and the original author is Michael Bond. The movie is very gorgeous.

The music is very good. There is airy Latin music and the melodies express Paddington’s sad feelings in the movie. I think all music matches the mood of the movie. The audience reaction was also very good. The box office sales were more than thirty-two billion yen.

I think a similar movie is “Ted” because the main character, Ted is a bear, like Paddington.

It’s an emotional story of a bear’s laughter and adventure.  You will keep an eye on the various events that happen to him.
